Prevention is always the best treatment
Professional cleaning, done properly
Our regular tooth cleaning service is the best way to prevent cavities and gum disease. A thorough, unhurried cleaning removes the plaque and the hardened tartar where disease-causing bacteria hide.

Why it matters
More than your teeth
Our regular tooth cleaning service is the best way to prevent cavities and gum diseases. It also reduces the risk of heart attacks, stroke and lung problems, as well as diabetes and diverticulitis, premature birth and underweight babies at birth. Up to 700 different germs have been detected in the human mouth, and some of them can be the cause of chronic infections in the oral cavity as well as in remote organs of your body.
The purpose
Removing where bacteria hide
The purpose of our intense and careful professional cleaning is to eliminate the entire soft white plaque attached to the surface of your teeth, as well as the mineralised, hard tartar where the disease-creating bacteria are hiding, accumulating and multiplying. We remove not only the hard, mineralised tartar, which cannot be eliminated by the patient at home. We also take away all the bacterial plaque hiding between and around the tooth collars, along with the stains caused by coffee, tea, nicotine, red wine and other discolouring agents.

The Process
01
Ultrasonic Removal
The classic ultrasonic instrument removes the largest and hardest mineralised tartar around the gums and teeth.
02
Manual Scaling Between the Teeth
The gentle, careful and far more accurate manual removal, with a very fine scaling instrument, of the small food, plaque and tartar particles, especially in the interdental spaces. This is the step that decides whether a cleaning is truly thorough.
03
Polishing
Every cleaning ends with polishing, to smooth the surfaces and give your teeth their original gloss and natural shine back. We were pioneers in using a hygienic single-use polishing brush for each patient.
04
Airflow, Where Needed
Where intense staining persists on the enamel, we finish with a gentle airflow of bicarbonate powder.
Why Dental Marbella
The details that decide the result.
01
45 to 60 Minutes
Our dental cleanings take at least 45 minutes and sometimes 60, simply because this is the minimum time required to perform a thorough and effective professional cleaning.
02
The Manual Interdental Step
The fine hand scaling between the teeth is the step most often left out. It is where most dental and gum problems begin, so we never skip it.
03
German and Scandinavian Philosophy
The preventive approach we have been pioneering in Marbella since the clinic was founded in 2000.
04
Single-Use Polishing Brushes
A new brush for every patient, disposed of afterwards and never reused.
Our standard
Why we take the time
A cleaning of 15 or 20 minutes cannot meet our standard of professional dental cleaning. What concerns us more is what follows: a patient who believes they have just had a proper cleaning will postpone the next appointment for another six months, while bleeding, bad breath and bad taste quietly get worse underneath. A masterfully performed professional dental cleaning is also the most efficient way to maintain a fresh and healthy mouth, preventing bad breath, foul taste and receding gums.

Hygiene
No compromises where your health is concerned
Our instruments are stored in disposable sterile bags, which guarantees they stay sterile until the moment they are used. The brushes used to polish your teeth are disposed of afterwards and never reused. You would not want to reuse somebody else's toothbrush either, even one that had been disinfected and sterilised, because the individual bristles simply cannot be cleaned safely. We do not want to make any compromises, especially where your health is concerned.
Prevention
Where most health costs come from
70% of the healthcare costs in industrialised nations are caused as a consequence of the modern lifestyle of our western civilisation. Caries, cardiovascular disease such as high blood pressure and heart problems, and cancer are far rarer in communities still living on traditional diets. Health education on nutrition, and individual instruction on daily oral hygiene, are therefore fundamental, just as prevention and early detection of disease through regular check-ups and professional dental cleaning.
Questions
Frequently asked.
At least 45 minutes, and sometimes 60. That is the minimum time required to perform a thorough and effective professional cleaning, so it is the time we plan for.
Plaque is the soft white film that attaches to the surface of your teeth. Tartar is plaque that has mineralised and hardened, and it cannot be removed at home. We remove both, along with the stains from coffee, tea, nicotine and red wine.
The interdental spaces are where most dental and gum problems begin, and they cannot be reached properly by an ultrasonic tip alone. The fine manual scaling that reaches them is the step that decides whether a cleaning is genuinely thorough.
Instruments are stored in disposable sterile bags and stay sterile until they are used. Polishing brushes are single use, disposed of after your appointment and never used on anyone else.
