Before You Begin
A treatment that is irreversible.
Implant dentistry has, over the last decades, become very popular as a fantastic solution to obtain new, fixed teeth, similar to the ones lost. What we always try to make patients aware of before undergoing an implant surgical treatment is the fact that this procedure is, in most cases, irreversible. Most surgical mistakes cannot be corrected, and if they can, only with an immense additional complexity and invasiveness of the procedure. This is unlike a filling, or even a crown or a veneer, where it is relatively easy to correct mistakes.
The Right Choice
Choose the professional carefully.
For that reason, we cannot emphasise enough the importance of paying the utmost attention to the right choice of the professional who will perform this irreversible treatment. You are placing a foreign-body material inside your body, one that is intended to stay there for decades. During this time, any error will continuously affect your oral and overall health, as well as your immune system.
An Analogy
Like a nail in a wall.
Similar to placing a nail in a wall, it is technically quite simple to place an implant inside a jaw bone. In most cases it is much easier than, for instance, removing an impacted wisdom tooth, which generally requires far more technical and manual skill and experience. And just as we all know how simple it is to place a nail in a wall, we know just as well that the hardest part is the correct position of the nail: its height, its distribution within the wall, its straightness, the right depth, and sufficient stability.
Where the Skill Lies
The art is in the positioning.
The same applies to dental implants. It is very simple to screw in an implant after drilling a hole into the bone. The real challenge, art and expertise lies within the meticulously planned, analysed and executed placement, giving zero room for errors in the correct three-dimensional positioning of the implant within the jaw bone. We are fully aware that this position will remain forever unchanged, and that whatever compromise or mistake occurs during this surgery will affect your gums, your bone, the adjacent teeth, or the overall aesthetics of the new crown.

Our Method
Planned to the half-millimetre.
This is the main reason why we plan 99% of our implant surgeries on a computer screen, in combination with a CBCT scan of the patient's jaw bone, to manufacture a custom-made surgical guide. This guide directs our drilling and implant placement with a precision of up to 0.5 millimetres.
What This Means for You
Gentler than an extraction.
This does not only assure maximum precision. It also significantly reduces surgery time, minimises the risk of infection during the operation, and reduces patient discomfort to a maximum, to the point that many patients describe the procedure as gentler than a tooth extraction. We have been pioneering this technology in Marbella since 2007.
Brand Is Not Skill
The tool does not make the master.
It is sometimes assumed that the success of an implant depends on the brand used. That has the same logic as claiming that the safety and trust you place in a driver depend on the car he drives, or that a hairdresser's results depend on the scissors and blow-dryer, or that the taste of a dish by a renowned chef depends on the stove, hob or frying pan. Any dentist, like any chef or any hairdresser, can buy an implant, a pair of scissors or a frying pan of a given brand. That tells you nothing about their personal skill.
The Human Factor
Same tools, different hands.
These products are standardised, and in tightly regulated fields like medicine and dentistry every implant has to pass strict licensing protocols before it can be used at all. So the real difference in outcomes lies exclusively in the hands of the professional performing the treatment. Give three chefs the same pans and the same ingredients, and the results will still be completely different. With standardised, highly controlled products, it is the human factor that makes the difference.

What We See
The failures we inherit.
This is exactly why, almost every day, we see new patients arriving with implant-related problems, infections and even pain from work done elsewhere. Some are so disappointed that they refuse to have any further implants placed, and they share those negative experiences with friends and family. That is a real tragedy, and one we genuinely regret.
The Real Cause
Don't blame the implant.
We explain it with another everyday analogy. If someone has a car accident, no one seriously blames the car, or swears off that brand, or decides never to drive again because cars have accidents. The same is true here. The idea that implants simply fail or get infected is not true. It depends, to an immense extent, on the professional, on the timing and the procedure, and on teamwork with a well-informed, motivated patient, so that the implant is cared for and maintained over the long term after it is placed.
